Borderland Masks explores the stories of lucha libre fans along the US/Mexico border through a series of multimedia pieces. The project centers on families from the borderlands, inviting them to create their own luchador personas, including designing costumes, choosing character names and wearing their favorite mask. This approach allows them to maintain anonymity while revealing intimate aspects of their lives. Featured in the project are two families from Phoenix, Arizona, and two from Nogales, Sonora. The photos act as a bridge, offering a deeper understanding of lucha libre not only as a spectacle but also as a tradition that extends beyond the arenas, symbolizing visibility and connection to a rich Hispanic heritage.
